Why do you think data and analytics are important for a Better World?
Technology is changing increasingly quickly and AI, robotics, virtual reality are disrupting the way we process information and shaping our lives. We need to do our best to keep up, because that will determine our scope of influence. In a world that also faces an increasing amount of physical threats due to climate change it is vital that we support NGO’s, that help people in need, to become as effective as possible and make the best possible decisions.
Why did you choose to take on this role at Analytics for a Better World?
Humanitarian logistics is very close to my heart, and in 2006 I completed my bachelor’s thesis on the humanitarian response to hurricane Katrina as well as completing an internship at the logistics division at Merlin (London-based NGO). I hope to help Analytics for a Better World achieve their short-term goals and simultaneously learn more about analytics and the NGO partners along the way.
Which one is your favorite UN Sustainable Development Goal and why?
My favourite SDG is number 4, quality education, because I believe that lifelong learning is the starting point for freedom of thought, a critical mind to distinguish fact from falsehood and key to adapting to the increasingly complex world going forward.
