About the programme

About the programme

The ABW Impact Accelerator is a 14-week, cohort-based programme that helps NGOs and non-profit organizations turn a high-priority challenge into a practical AI and analytics solution.

Each cycle, five organizations are selected through an open call to join the Accelerator. Throughout the programme, participants work alongside researchers, data scientists, software engineers and domain experts from ABW's academic and industry network to develop and validate a decision-support solution tailored to their specific challenge.

At the same time, participants strengthen their own analytics and AI capabilities through a practical curriculum, expert coaching and peer learning. Organizations leave the Accelerator with a validated solution, a clear implementation roadmap, stronger analytics and AI capabilities, and access to the partnerships needed to take their innovation forward.

Key concept

What is Prescriptive AI?

Most organizations use data to understand what happened or to predict what might happen. Prescriptive AI goes one step further and answers a harder question:

“Given what’s happening and what’s likely to happen, what should we do next?”

By combining data, predictive insights and mathematical optimization, it recommends the best course of action while respecting real-world constraints such as budgets, capacity, equity and time.

Typical decision challenges

How do we allocate scarce staff, vehicles or financial resources?

How can we reach the most beneficiaries with a limited budget?

Where should we locate our facilities or services?

How should we distribute food, medicines or other essential supplies?

Which routes minimize travel time, costs or emissions?

How can we organize the collection of waste, donations or reusable products?

What is the best plan when demand or supply is uncertain?

Cohort Selected

Five organizations are selected. Each joins a cohort of peers working on different challenges but facing similar questions around analytics and AI. The programme opens with a two-day, in-person kick-off where participants meet their project teams, connect with the cohort and define the roadmap for the months ahead.

AI Curriculum

Alongside the project, participants follow a practical curriculum of expert masterclasses, mentoring, peer learning and hands-on application. They learn to spot high-value opportunities for analytics and AI, understand Prescriptive AI, assess data readiness and implement AI solutions in their organization.
