Stichting Analytics for a Better World (“ABW”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process, why we process it, how we protect it and what rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG) and applicable Dutch data protection law.
1. Who we are
Stichting Analytics for a Better World is a non-profit foundation established in the Netherlands. We work with mission-driven organisations, academic institutions and private-sector partners to apply analytics, artificial intelligence and decision science to societal challenges.
For the purposes of the GDPR, Stichting Analytics for a Better World is the controller of the personal data described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Personal data we process
Depending on how you interact with ABW, we may process:
your name, organisation, position and contact details;
information you provide when you contact us;
information you provide when applying for or participating in an ABW programme, project, training or event;
information relating to our partners, funders, researchers, experts and other professional contacts;
information you provide when subscribing to newsletters or other communications;
information necessary for contracts, grants, donations, invoices and other administrative or financial activities;
technical information generated when you visit our website, such as IP address, browser and device information and website usage data; and
other personal information you voluntarily provide to us.
We only process personal data that is necessary for the relevant purpose.
We do not intentionally collect special categories of personal data through our website unless this is necessary for a specific activity and an appropriate legal basis and safeguards are in place.
3. Purposes and legal bases for processing
We process personal data for the following purposes:
Enquiries and communications
To respond to questions, requests and other communications. Depending on the circumstances, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in communicating with stakeholders or taking steps at your request before entering into an agreement.
Programmes, projects, research, training and events
To administer participation, communicate with participants and partners, and deliver our activities. The legal basis may be performance of an agreement, our legitimate interests in carrying out our public-benefit activities, or consent where required.
Partner, funder and stakeholder relationships
To develop and manage professional relationships with organisations and individuals relevant to ABW's mission. We generally rely on our legitimate interest in developing and maintaining these relationships.
Newsletters and communications
To provide news and information about ABW's work. Where required by law, we rely on your consent. You can unsubscribe from electronic communications at any time.
Contracts, grants, donations and administration
To administer agreements, funding, donations, invoices and financial transactions. Processing may be necessary for the performance of an agreement or compliance with legal obligations.
Website operation, security and improvement
To operate and secure our website, prevent misuse and understand how the website is used. We rely on our legitimate interests where permitted and on consent where this is required for cookies or similar technologies.
Legal and regulatory obligations
To comply with applicable laws, accounting requirements and requests from competent authorities where we have a legal obligation to do so.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider whether our interests are proportionate and whether your interests, rights or freedoms override those interests.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before consent was withdrawn.
4. Where personal data comes from
We usually obtain personal data directly from you.
We may also receive professional contact information from organisations you work with, ABW partners, publicly available professional sources or other legitimate sources where relevant to our work.
Where required by the GDPR, we will provide additional information about such processing.
5. Sharing personal data
We do not sell personal data.
We may share personal data where necessary with:
IT, cloud, website hosting and other technology providers;
email, communications and event service providers;
professional advisers, accountants and other administrative service providers;
research, programme and project partners where sharing is necessary for the relevant activity;
funders or contracting organisations where appropriate and legally permitted; and
public authorities or other parties where disclosure is required by law.
Where an external organisation processes personal data on our behalf, we take appropriate measures, including data-processing agreements where required, to ensure that personal data is handled in accordance with applicable law.
6. International transfers
ABW works internationally and may use service providers or collaborate with organisations located outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure that an appropriate transfer mechanism is in place where required under the GDPR. This may include an adequacy decision by the European Commission, Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally recognised safeguard.
You may contact us if you would like more information about the safeguards applicable to an international transfer of your personal data.
7. How long we retain personal data
We do not retain personal data longer than necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
The applicable retention period depends on the nature of the information, the purpose of the processing and any legal or contractual retention requirements.
For example, financial and administrative records may be retained for the period required under Dutch law, while contact information used for communications is retained only for as long as it remains relevant or until you withdraw your consent or object to the processing, where applicable.
When personal data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it where appropriate.
8. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure or access.
Access to personal data is restricted to people and service providers who require it for legitimate purposes.
9. Cookies and website analytics
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies.
Cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of the website may be used without your consent where permitted by law.
Analytics, marketing, tracking or other optional cookies and similar technologies will only be used in accordance with applicable Dutch and EU law. Where consent is required, these technologies will not be activated until you have made a choice.
Where applicable, our cookie banner or cookie settings provide further information about the cookies and similar technologies used, their purposes and how you can change or withdraw your consent.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR, depending on the circumstances, you have the right to:
request access to your personal data;
request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data;
request deletion of your personal data;
request restriction of processing;
object to processing based on legitimate interests;
receive certain personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and, where applicable, have it transferred to another organisation;
withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent; and
object to direct marketing at any time.
You also have rights in relation to certain automated decision-making and profiling. ABW does not currently use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on individuals through this website.

We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request. We will respond within the time limits required by the GDPR.

Our website may contain links to websites operated by other organisations. ABW is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party websites. We encourage you to review their privacy information when visiting them.

We may update this Privacy Policy when our activities, systems, service providers or legal obligations change.
The current version will always be available on our website. The date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was last updated.

Stichting Analytics for a Better World is an independent Dutch non-profit foundation. We apply analytics, artificial intelligence and decision science to help mission-driven organisations make better decisions and increase their societal impact.
The Foundation is established in the Netherlands and operates exclusively or almost exclusively for the public benefit.

2. Purpose
Analytics for a Better World works to advance the responsible application and accessibility of data science, analytics and artificial intelligence for societal benefit.
The Foundation supports mission-driven organisations and public-interest initiatives, advances research and education in analytics and AI for societal challenges, and promotes collaboration and knowledge exchange between academic institutions, researchers, students, mission-driven organisations and other partners.
3. Activities
ABW pursues its objectives through activities including:
developing and applying analytics, AI and decision-science solutions to societal challenges;
conducting and supporting applied and academic research;
collaborating with mission-driven organisations, universities and other partners;
developing and delivering programmes, training and capacity building;
sharing knowledge, methods and tools to increase their wider societal impact.

4. Governance
Stichting Analytics for a Better World has a two-tier governance structure consisting of a Management Board (Bestuur) and an independent Supervisory Board (Raad van Toezicht).
The Management Board is responsible for the management, strategy, organisation, finances, risk management and activities of the Foundation. The Supervisory Board supervises the Management Board and the general affairs of the Foundation and acts as an adviser to the Management Board.

5. Remuneration Policy
Members of the Supervisory Board do not receive remuneration for their role other than reimbursement of reasonable expenses and, where applicable, a non-excessive attendance fee in accordance with applicable ANBI requirements.
The remuneration of employees and other professionals working for the Foundation is determined in accordance with the Foundation's remuneration policy and is appropriate to the nature, responsibilities and non-profit character of the organisation.
6. Financial Accountability
ABW uses its income and assets exclusively in support of its public-benefit objectives.
The Foundation does not aim to make a profit. Any positive financial result remains available to the Foundation and is used to further its statutory objectives.
The Foundation publishes its annual financial accounts and an overview of its activities in accordance with applicable ANBI requirements.
